3-4-2021....Yesterday Athena (Great Horned Owl) returned to her nest at WFC for 11th consecutive year. She is tolerant of people and always nests in Sotol planter at entrance to gardens. She will lay several eggs over next 3 or 4 days. Owlets will hatch on different days in mid-March and fledge the nest around 1st of May. While on eggs Athena never leaves nest & her mate brings food every morning. BTW...the horns you see are just Tufts of hair and NOT ears as most people think.
2-3-2021....Saw this Bewick Wren a few days ago at WFC. His pose lasted only a few seconds. Lucky to get this shot.
